The Yellow Culture

It has been years since I saw a cultural show. I don't usually peek at any cultural show. But yesterday while sight seeing at a local shopping mall in Seremban I saw the LION DANCE performance.

I cannot recall while attending 3 years of business school in Canada that I have ever watched a live lion dance performance. For every International Students Week show normally held in January every year that I attended in 1988, 1989 and 1990 there was no lion dance show. Its kind of weird that fellow students from the great wall did not know about lion dance when I asked them. Anyway I enjoyed the show.

I have never been to Egypt or any of the gulf states. A few years ago when the internet made its way into Malaysian minds, it was decided that the only way to counter the so called bad western influence i.e. the yellow culture was by diverting the routes Malaysian students were heading. Thus thousands were sent abroad to study in the Arab fraternities. Then after a few years it was realized that those students have changed their faiths.

I do not meant being an apostate but most of them have changed their school of thoughts i.e. from sunni to syiah. That is why nowadays there are many Malaysian men who wear the jubah and serban like the Arabs and Malaysian women wear the purdah instead of just the normal jilbab
(tudung). To me wearing clothes is just the ordinary garments and not following the Arabs.

Bear in mind that not only western countries have naked bars and not all Arabs are Muslims. I know some Arab nations have entertainment premises which serve alcohol and semi naked waitresses who dance 'gelek'.

The problem with Malaysians is the obsession of the word Islam. Anything that bears no 'ISLAMIC' phrase is not Islam which is stupid. There are banks in Malaysia which has no Islamic phrase on its title but is fully operational according to syariah. If a women does not wear the veil or you do not join a particular group then you cannot even reside in certain states.

People asked me if I ever is interested in Malaysian women and must she wear the veil. My answer is not necessary. I find beauty when women wears the veil and when she lets me see her hair. The point is I have never met any Malaysian women who adhere to my tastes. Most Malaysian women that I met tend to take advantage of me since I am nobody , you know like the master and slave.

I guess that answers the question whether I am a moderate Muslim or not.

The Suit

It is now half past one in the morning. Want to know why I cannot sleep?
Now I remember some of the weird events at the then SAAS airport KL on October 15th 1990.No wonder those immigration and custom personnel was rude to me. They asked me why I did not have my tie though I did have my jacket on?
I told those immigration and custom people I will be in Malaysia for a while but they laughed and looked at me like shit.Right from the very beginning I was bullied.Nothing said is nice about me since then.
NOW
I swear to God the next time I fly out from KL I will wear my jeans and t shirt. This is because I was accused of carrying bad Malaysian image when I was abroad from 1987 to 1990.
The Suit will always be remembered!
